Nigeria’s population numbers hit new record for 2018

Nigeria’s total population hit a new record in 2018, according to a government data source, according an AFP report on Monday.

The government said on Monday that the population was more than 1.2 million, and the country’s population density reached a record high of 1,739 people per square kilometre in 2019.

In 2018, the population hit 1.6 million and its density reached 2,836 people per sqkm, it said.

The population density is the density of people living in a particular area.

The new record, which was set in 2019, is also the highest ever recorded in Nigeria, said the report.

The country’s top-ranked health authority, the World Health Organization, said on Saturday that the death rate had decreased to 2.3 per 100,000 in 2018 from 2.6 in 2019 and the number of malaria cases has fallen to 6,853 from 8,938, it reported.

The health authority also said that the number and severity of cases dropped in the period, while the number overall increased.
