Philadelphia population: 1.9 million, up 4% over last year
Philly’s population increased 1.4% in the first quarter of this year, according to the latest data released by the U.S. Census Bureau.
The city of 8.5 million now has 1.8 million residents.
The number of households is up 4.2% over the previous year, the most in the country.
The population also grew by 0.6% from the previous quarter, while the number of renters fell by 0% to 1.7 million.
The Census Bureau also reported that the city experienced the most births of any metro area in the nation in the year ended September 30, up 14.1%.
The metro area also experienced the second-highest percentage of births in the Midwest region.
According to the Census Bureau, Philadelphia is home to 1,817,955 residents.
It is followed by Chicago, at 1,919,569; Houston, at 2,039,749; Detroit, at 3,009,764; Baltimore, at 4,971,735; and New York City, at 6,064,906.
